Wind Basics

Hurricanes are known for causing damage to homes and property, for destroying family keepsakes, and for disrupting family life. But, with the help of an inspection and vulnerability assessment, homeowners can take action to protect their homes. Hurricanes are large, usually slow moving storms that bring high winds and wind driven rain that can impact a home from a wide range of directions and proximity to the eye of the storm. As a result, the wind affects different homes in profoundly different ways, depending on their design, location with respect to open water, and neighboring structures. In addition, hurricanes can cause storm surge that affects coastal properties and cause rain induced inland flooding.
